Job Summary

Matador Lending is seeking a detail-oriented and highly knowledgeable Mortgage Compliance Officer to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring that all mortgage lending activities adhere to federal, state, and investor compliance regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in mortgage compliance, risk management, and regulatory frameworks, while providing guidance to internal teams to ensure operational excellence and adherence to legal standards. This is a fully remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing financial services company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, review, and assess company policies, procedures, and loan documentation for compliance with federal, state, and investor regulations.

  • Stay up to date on changing mortgage compliance laws (TRID, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, FCRA, etc.) and ensure company-wide adherence.

  • Conduct regular audits of loan files to identify potential compliance risks and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, and processors to address compliance questions and provide training as needed.

  • Develop, maintain, and update compliance checklists, training materials, and reporting systems.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for compliance-related inquiries from regulatory agencies, auditors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify trends in compliance risks and implement preventive strategies.

  • Prepare compliance reports for senior management and recommend policy enhancements to strengthen risk controls.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field (Master’s preferred but not required).

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state mortgage regulations, including TRID, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, and other applicable laws.

  • Proven ability to conduct audits, analyze loan files, and interpret regulatory requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with mortgage lending systems, compliance software, and MS Office Suite.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with regulators, leadership teams, and cross-functional departments.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of mortgage compliance experience, preferably within a lending institution, bank, or mortgage company.

  • Prior experience with regulatory audits and reporting is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with both retail and wholesale mortgage lending operations is a plus.

Working Hours

  • Full-time, remote position.

  • Standard business hours, with flexibility to accommodate time-sensitive compliance deadlines or audits.
