Job Summary

Rand Water is seeking a highly skilled Pipelines Operations Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on the mechanical and civil aspects of pipeline projects, ensuring the effective design, construction, and maintenance of water infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, practical project management experience, and a commitment to operational excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the planning, design, and execution of mechanical and civil works for pipeline projects.

  • Conduct detailed engineering assessments, feasibility studies, and site inspections.

  • Ensure all construction and maintenance activities comply with technical standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders to meet project deadlines and budgets.

  • Monitor pipeline performance and provide technical solutions to operational challenges.

  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and progress updates for management.

  • Support risk assessment, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional engineering registration or eligibility with the relevant engineering council is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of pipeline systems, water distribution networks, and mechanical/civil construction practices.

  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar).

  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with teams and stakeholders.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in pipeline operations, project management, or a similar engineering role.

  • Proven experience in mechanical and civil engineering projects, preferably within the water or utilities sector.

  • Hands-on experience in construction oversight, commissioning, and maintenance of large-scale pipeline systems.

Working Hours

  • Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week.

  • Flexibility may be required for project deadlines, site visits, or emergency operational support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of hydraulic systems, mechanical components, and civil construction methods.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and specifications.

  • High level of attention to detail and adherence to safety and compliance standards.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
