Job Summary

Mediclinic is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CSSD Supervisor to oversee the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). The successful candidate will ensure that all surgical instruments, equipment, and medical devices are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and distributed according to healthcare standards. This leadership role requires a strong focus on patient safety, compliance with infection control protocols, and efficient team management.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the CSSD, including decontamination, sterilization, inspection, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment.

• Ensure strict compliance with infection control standards, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines.

• Monitor the performance of sterilization equipment and coordinate maintenance, calibration, and servicing as required.

• Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, inventory levels, and quality assurance checks.

• Train, mentor, and guide CSSD staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.

• Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and reduce risks.

• Collaborate with nursing, surgical, and medical teams to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.

• Report to senior management on departmental performance, resource needs, and compliance status.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Sterile Services, Nursing, or a related healthcare field.

• Certification in Sterile Services or Infection Control (preferred).

• Strong understanding of sterilization processes, microbiology, and infection prevention.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in a hospital CSSD, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

• Experience with modern sterilization equipment and techniques is essential.

Working Hours

• Full-time role with flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays, based on hospital operational requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• In-depth knowledge of sterilization standards (ISO, SANS, or equivalent).

• Proficiency in CSSD documentation and record-keeping.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
