Job Summary


Cigna is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Support Specialist to join our Customer Service team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing them with support on insurance queries, claim processes, treatment authorizations, and overall guidance through their healthcare journey. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver an exceptional service experience to patients and healthcare providers while upholding Cigna’s core value of customer-centricity.




Key Responsibilities



  • Respond promptly to inbound calls, emails, and chats from patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

  • Provide accurate information regarding insurance coverage, claims, benefits, and billing.

  • Guide patients through the prior authorization process and coordinate with internal departments for case resolution.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

  • Record all interactions and transactions clearly in the system for proper case documentation and future reference.

  • Assist with resolving concerns, complaints, and appeals in a professional and empathetic manner.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with claims, billing, and clinical teams to ensure seamless patient support.

  • Follow up with patients on outstanding issues and ensure timely resolution.

  • Proactively identify recurring issues and report trends to the supervisor for continuous improvement.




Required Skills and Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple systems and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfortable with CRM systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Empathy, patience, and a customer-first mindset.




Experience



  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare, insurance, or call center environment.

  • Experience in medical billing, health insurance claims, or patient coordination is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and customer service protocols is a plus.




Working Hours



  • Full-time position: Monday to Friday

  • Shift options available between 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST (flexibility required)

  • Occasional weekend or holiday coverage may be required based on business needs.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Strong understanding of healthcare insurance terms, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of patient assistance programs, insurance benefits coordination, and pre-authorizations.

  • Skilled in maintaining calm and professionalism during high-pressure interactions.
