Job Summary


As Bar Utility Staff, you will keep the ship’s bars, pantries, and beverage storage areas impeccably clean, safe, organized, and fully stocked. You’ll support bartenders and bar waiters by replenishing beverages, glassware, garnishes, ice, and consumables; executing cleaning and sanitation routines; and following strict inventory and HACCP standards to ensure a flawless guest experience across multiple venues.




Key Responsibilities



  • Replenish bars and pantries with beverages, glassware, garnishes, disposables, and ice according to par levels.

  • Receive, label, rotate, and store stock (FIFO) in accordance with company and maritime health regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of bar pantries, refrigerators, freezers, and storage lockers; complete daily/weekly cleaning schedules.

  • Transport stock safely using trolleys and follow proper lifting techniques.

  • Assist with inventory counts, breakage/spillage logging, and variance reporting.

  • Handle and dispose of waste (bottles, cans, cartons) following environmental and recycling procedures (e.g., MARPOL).

  • Set up and break down self-service beverage stations during embarkation, theme nights, and special events.

  • Support bartenders during peak service with glassware polishing, dishwashing machine operation, and quick restocking.

  • Adhere to HACCP, USPH/PH, and company hygiene standards; pass all inspections.

  • Follow safety protocols, including emergency duties as per the ship’s muster list.

  • Communicate effectively with the Bar, Provision, and Housekeeping teams to meet operational timelines.




Required Skills and Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic knowledge of bar operations, beverage categories, and sanitation procedures.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–30 kg repeatedly and work on your feet for long periods.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.

  • Basic English communication skills (verbal and written). Additional languages are a plus.

  • Willingness to work 7 days a week in a high-volume, fast-paced, multicultural environment.

  • Familiarity with HACCP/USPH standards (training provided if not previously certified).




Experience



  • Preferred: 6–12 months in a utility, stewarding, bar back, or storekeeping role in hospitality (hotel, resort, cruise, casino, or large F&B outlet).

  • Advantageous: Prior cruise ship experience, inventory handling, or dishwashing/cleaning operations.




Working Hours



  • Contract-based shipboard schedule, typically 7 days per week.

  • Average 70–84 hours per week depending on itinerary and operational demands.

  • Shift-based work (morning, afternoon, late-night) with split shifts common.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Sanitation & Safety: Understanding of food & beverage hygiene, PPE use, chemical handling, and safe lifting.

  • Inventory & Logistics: Knowledge of par levels, FIFO, basic stocktaking, and breakage control.

  • Teamwork: Cooperative, reliable, and supportive across departments.

  • Resilience: Physically fit; able to handle repetitive tasks and high workloads.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable with changing schedules, port inspections, and special events.

  • Customer Focus (Indirect): Though guest interaction is limited, your work directly impacts guest satisfaction.
