Junior Entertainment Host – Guest Activity and Events Assistant

Neptune Global Voyages

Available Locations: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

Job Description

Job Summary

Neptune Global Voyages is seeking an energetic, guest-obsessed Junior Entertainment Host to support the delivery of daily entertainment, activities, and themed events on board our ships. You will be the smiling face on the microphone, the organiser behind the scenes, and the calm problem-solver who makes every guest feel included—whether it’s trivia at noon, karaoke at midnight, or deck games under the sun. This is a shipboard, contract-based role ideal for confident presenters, recent hospitality/performing arts graduates, and anyone who thrives in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Host & co-host activities: quizzes, game shows, karaoke, deck parties, dance classes, family activities, and destination-themed events.

  • Guest engagement: proactively interact with guests across venues, promote upcoming events, and encourage participation in a friendly, approachable manner.

  • Event operations: set up, run, and break down activity spaces (props, scorecards, PA systems, lighting cues, seating layouts).

  • Stage & AV coordination: liaise with Entertainment/Technical teams to ensure smooth transitions, accurate cues, and quality audio levels.

  • Safety & compliance: participate in mandatory safety drills, crowd management, and emergency procedures in line with maritime regulations.

  • Administration: update daily activity schedules, prepare scripts/briefs, track participation numbers, and contribute to post-cruise reports.

  • Brand ambassador: uphold Neptune Global Voyages’ service standards and guest experience values at all times.

  • Social media/input (as required): support onboard content creation by providing ideas, coverage, and highlights of guest-facing activities.

  • Cross-functional support: assist Cruise Director/Entertainment Manager with special events, VIP functions, and embarkation/debarkation day duties.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent public speaking, microphone confidence, and stage presence.

  • Strong people skills: warm, inclusive, and able to energise diverse audiences (kids, families, seniors, international travellers).

  • Fluent English (additional languages such as Spanish, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, or Portuguese are a strong plus).

  • Solid organisational and time-management abilities; able to juggle multiple events and quickly adapt to last-minute changes.

  • Basic understanding of audio/visual equipment (microphones, mixers, lighting cues) or willingness to learn quickly.

  • Calm under pressure, solution-oriented, and able to make confident decisions on the spot.

  • Physically fit to stand for extended periods, move equipment, and participate in high-energy activities.

  • Valid passport with the ability to obtain required visas, medical clearances, and seafarer documents.

Experience

  • 0–2 years in entertainment, hospitality, cruise lines, theme parks, resorts, events, MC’ing, or performing arts (theatre, dance, music) preferred.

  • Internship, campus ambassador, or volunteer experience hosting events is acceptable for entry-level candidates.

  • Previous shipboard experience is an advantage but not mandatory.

  • Familiarity with crowd management and customer service in high-volume environments is beneficial.

Working Hours

  • Shipboard rotation: typically 4–6 month contracts at sea, followed by vacation periods.

  • 6–7 days per week, variable shifts (mornings, afternoons, late nights), aligned to the entertainment schedule.

  • Expect long, highly active days—balanced by crew rest hours and statutory maritime regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of interactive games, party formats, and ice-breaker activities.

  • Ability to memorise scripts, programme schedules, and safety procedures.

  • Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work in an international, multilingual team.

  • Competence with Microsoft Office / Google Workspace for schedules, reports, and content preparation.

  • Willingness to learn maritime safety standards (STCW, Crowd & Crisis Management, etc., training may be provided).

Benefits

  • Competitive tax-free onboard compensation with potential performance incentives.

  • Accommodation and meals provided on board.

  • International travel to bucket-list destinations.

  • Medical coverage while on contract, as per company policy.

  • Professional development & promotion pathways within Entertainment and Guest Experience teams.

  • Crew facilities & welfare programmes (gym, recreation areas, crew events).

  • Paid training on safety and operational protocols.

Why Join Neptune Global Voyages

  • Be part of a world-class entertainment team delivering unforgettable guest experiences.

  • Fast-track growth: prove yourself on stage and backstage, and move up to Senior Host, Activity Manager, or Cruise Staff leadership roles.

  • Work with diverse cultures, creative professionals, and global audiences every single day.

  • Turn your personality, energy, and love for people into a rewarding, international career.

How to Apply

  1. Submit your CV/resume highlighting hosting, public speaking, performing arts, or hospitality experience.

  2. Include a 1–2 minute video reel (or links) showcasing your hosting/presentation skills (optional but strongly recommended).
