Job Summary
Mediclinic is seeking a compassionate, detail‑oriented Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary (ENA) to provide high-quality, patient‑centred care and operational support within our Surgical Ward. You will work under the supervision of Registered/Professional Nurses, ensuring safe clinical practice, smooth ward operations, and an exceptional patient experience from admission to discharge.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver fundamental nursing care (hygiene, comfort, mobility, nutrition, elimination) to surgical patients in line with care plans and clinical protocols.
- Perform routine observations (vitals, fluid balance, pain scores) and promptly escalate abnormalities to the supervising nurse.
- Prepare patients pre‑ and post‑operatively, including theatre transfer assistance and post‑anaesthesia monitoring support.
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, including environmental cleanliness, PPE adherence, and waste segregation.
- Assist with specimen collection, basic wound care support, and simple dressings as delegated.
- Accurately document care activities, observations, and interventions in patient records/electronic systems.
- Ensure the ward is adequately stocked, equipment is cleaned and functional, and report faults or shortages.
- Provide empathetic communication to patients and families, supporting education on basic post‑operative care needs.
- Uphold patient safety practices (falls prevention, pressure injury prevention, safe mobilisation).
- Participate in handovers, audits, drills, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to legal, ethical, and organisational policies, including confidentiality and informed consent.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary (ENA) certificate/diploma from an accredited institution.
- Current registration with the relevant national/regional Nursing Council/Board.
- Up-to-date BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within onboarding timelines).
- Working knowledge of basic surgical nursing procedures, vital signs monitoring, and documentation standards.
- Familiarity with infection prevention & control and occupational health & safety practices.
- Computer literacy for electronic health records and basic ward systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to follow instructions and escalate appropriately.
Experience
- 1–2 years’ experience as an ENA in an acute care setting (preferably surgical/medical ward or theatre support) is advantageous.
- Newly qualified ENAs with strong clinical exposure during training and a willingness to learn will also be considered.
Working Hours
- Shift-based roster covering days, nights, weekends, and public holidays (e.g., 8–12 hour shifts depending on operational needs).
- Overtime or standby may be required to meet patient acuity and service demand.
