Job Summary

Rand Water is seeking enthusiastic and motivated graduates to join our Graduate Development Programme in Environmental Management, a 24-month structured programme designed to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders. This programme provides participants with hands-on experience in environmental management, sustainability, and water resource management while gaining exposure to Rand Water’s operational and strategic initiatives. Successful candidates will contribute to projects that support the organisation’s environmental compliance, sustainability goals, and community engagement initiatives.

This programme is ideal for graduates who are passionate about environmental protection, resource management, and innovative solutions that drive sustainable water management in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring and managing environmental compliance across Rand Water operations.

  • Support environmental impact assessments and audits to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks.

  • Participate in sustainability and environmental management projects, including water quality monitoring and pollution control initiatives.

  • Collect, analyse, and report environmental data to assist in strategic decision-making.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures.

  • Support environmental awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement innovative solutions for environmental challenges.

  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and sustainability practices.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Experience

  • No prior professional experience is required; this programme is designed for recent graduates.

  • Internship or project experience in environmental management, sustainability, or water resource management is advantageous.

Working Hours

  • Full-time role: 40 hours per week.

  • Standard office hours, with occasional field visits and project-related travel.
