Job Summary

Building Services is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician (HVAC) to join our facilities and operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and comfort across residential, commercial, and industrial properties. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, chillers, and ventilation units.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend system lifespan.

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Ensure all HVAC work complies with company standards, building codes, and safety regulations.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and inspection reports.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns.

  • Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other maintenance staff as needed.

  • Provide recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and cost-saving solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical certification or diploma in HVAC, Refrigeration, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and components.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical faults.

  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Valid technician license or certification (where applicable).

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, or repair.

  • Experience working in commercial or industrial facilities is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and compliance standards is preferred.

Working Hours

  • Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week.

  • May require shift work, on-call duties, weekends, or overtime depending on operational needs and emergencies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and airflow principles.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
