Job Summary

FLVS (Florida Virtual School) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Online Science Instructor to teach high school students through a flexible, interactive, and technology-driven environment. This role involves delivering engaging online lessons, supporting student learning through virtual tools, and maintaining a positive and motivating classroom culture. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to student success, innovative teaching practices, and digital learning excellence.

As an integral part of FLVS’s mission to provide quality online education across Florida and beyond, the Science Instructor will design, develop, and facilitate courses aligned with state standards and the school’s academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver online science instruction that engages high school students in virtual learning environments.

• Utilize FLVS-approved curriculum and instructional materials to meet course objectives and state standards.

• Monitor student progress through assessments, assignments, and virtual interactions, ensuring timely feedback and support.

• Provide one-on-one guidance, tutoring, and motivation to help students meet their academic goals.

• Conduct virtual office hours, webinars, and live sessions to address student questions and enhance learning outcomes.

• Collaborate with other FLVS teachers, academic coordinators, and parents to ensure consistent communication and student success.

• Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and grades in the learning management system (LMS).

• Participate in ongoing professional development and virtual staff meetings to stay current with educational technology and teaching strategies.

• Adapt teaching methods and course content to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of online students.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).

• Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in Science (Grades 6–12).

• Strong understanding of state and national science standards.

• Proficiency in online teaching platforms and educational technologies (LMS, Zoom, Google Workspace, etc.).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong time-management and organizational abilities.

• Ability to motivate and engage students in a virtual learning environment.

• Commitment to continuous improvement and professional learning.

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a middle or high school science classroom, preferably in an online or blended environment.

• Experience using digital instructional tools and virtual teaching platforms.

• Previous experience in curriculum design or online course development is an advantage.

Working Hours

• Full-time remote position with flexible scheduling based on student needs.

• Teachers are expected to be available during core school hours (typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST).

• Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for student support, meetings, or grading deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Deep knowledge of science subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics.

• Ability to apply innovative online teaching strategies to enhance student learning.

• Strong technical literacy and adaptability to new software tools.

• Ability to provide constructive feedback and academic guidance remotely.

• Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities independently.

• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues in a virtual setting.
