Job Summary

InfoTech Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Remote Inpatient/Outpatient Coding Specialist to join our expanding healthcare services division. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records in compliance with industry standards, federal regulations, and payer requirements. This position requires a motivated professional who can work independently, maintain high accuracy, and contribute to efficient revenue cycle operations while adhering to all organizational and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and code inpatient and outpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems.

  • Ensure accurate assignment of DRGs (Diagnosis-Related Groups) and APCs (Ambulatory Payment Classifications).

  • Validate documentation to ensure it supports assigned codes and meets compliance standards.

  • Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve discrepancies.

  • Maintain productivity and accuracy benchmarks set by the organization.

  • Work collaboratively with the billing and RCM teams to support claim accuracy and timely reimbursement.

  • Stay updated with coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and payer requirements.

  • Participate in internal audits, quality checks, and training sessions as required.

  • Protect patient confidentiality and ensure full adherence to HIPAA regulations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized credentialing body such as CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC is mandatory.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

  • Strong understanding of inpatient and outpatient coding guidelines and regulatory standards.

  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage large volumes of records.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong computer literacy and experience with EHR/EMR and coding software systems.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on inpatient and/or outpatient medical coding experience in a hospital or clinical setting.

  • Experience with DRG/APC assignment preferred.

  • Prior experience working in a remote or virtual setup is an added advantage.

Working Hours

  • Full-time remote position.

  • Standard working hours: 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

  • Flexible scheduling may be available based on project requirements and time zone compatibility.

  • Occasional weekend or extended hours may be required during peak workload periods.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.

  • Strong understanding of CMS guidelines, payer policies, and industry compliance standards.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow secure data handling practices.

  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • High adaptability to new software tools, documentation systems, and workflow changes.

  • Ability to consistently meet or exceed quality and productivity expectations.
