Job Summary

Coursera is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Instructional Designer to join our Higher Education team in a fully remote capacity. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging, high-quality online learning experiences that meet the needs of universities, instructors, and learners worldwide. You will collaborate with faculty members, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to design, implement, and continuously improve digital courses that align with academic and pedagogical best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with professors, academic institutions, and Coursera partners to design and develop online courses and degree programs.

  • Apply instructional design models, such as ADDIE and SAM, to create interactive, learner-centered course materials.

  • Develop engaging multimedia content including videos, assessments, simulations, and interactive exercises.

  • Conduct needs analysis and learning assessments to identify course objectives and align them with measurable outcomes.

  • Ensure accessibility, inclusivity, and usability standards are met across all digital learning materials.

  • Work with content developers and graphic designers to maintain brand consistency and quality standards.

  • Use data-driven insights and learner feedback to refine and improve course design and delivery.

  • Manage timelines and multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and academic rigor.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.

  • Proven experience designing and developing online courses in a higher education or professional learning environment.

  • Strong understanding of learning management systems (LMS), eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate), and video editing software.

  • Knowledge of instructional design frameworks and adult learning principles (Andragogy).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible learning content.

  • Familiarity with SCORM, xAPI, and accessibility compliance standards (WCAG).

  • Strong project management, organization, and time-management skills.

Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development, preferably in higher education or online learning platforms.

  • Experience collaborating with faculty or subject matter experts in an academic environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate multimedia, interactive tools, and assessment methods effectively.

Working Hours

  • Fully remote position with flexible working hours.

  • Collaboration with global teams may require occasional meetings across multiple time zones.

  • Standard work schedule of 40 hours per week, with flexibility during course launches or partner projects.
