Job Summary

Pharmacy Technician is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Remote Prior Authorization (P.A.) Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic healthcare support team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing prior authorization requests, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring patients receive timely access to prescribed medications. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced virtual environment.

As a key member of our pharmacy support operations, you will collaborate with physicians, insurance providers, and patients to streamline the medication approval process, reduce delays, and maintain high standards of patient care and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process prior authorization requests for medications according to insurance plan guidelines.

  • Communicate with prescribers and insurance companies to gather necessary documentation and approvals.

  • Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and prescription benefits.

  • Submit and track prior authorization requests using electronic systems and portals.

  • Follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely completion and prevent treatment interruptions.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all authorization requests and communications.

  • Assist pharmacists with clinical and administrative tasks related to medication management.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all state and federal regulations governing pharmacy operations.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries from patients and healthcare providers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or state licensure (active and in good standing).

  • Proven experience with prior authorizations, insurance verification, or pharmacy benefits management.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medications, and insurance procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal).

  • Proficiency with pharmacy management software, EHR systems, and insurance portals.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work efficiently, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to confidentiality and data protection standards.

Experience

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a pharmacy technician or prior authorization role, preferably in a remote or healthcare call center setting.

  • Experience working with PBMs (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) and insurance carriers is highly preferred.

Working Hours

  • Full-time or part-time remote position.

  • Flexible scheduling options available (Monday to Friday).

  • Occasional weekend or evening shifts may be required depending on workload.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of medical and pharmacy benefits.

  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance formularies.

  • High level of accuracy in data entry and documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively in a virtual team environment.
