Job Summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Virtual Authorization and Scheduling Specialist to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating patient authorizations, scheduling appointments, and ensuring timely communication between patients, healthcare providers, and internal teams. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, customer-focused, and has excellent communication skills to support our mission of providing critical health services efficiently and compassionately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process medical authorizations accurately and in compliance with internal policies.

  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, procedures, and follow-ups.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and internal teams to resolve scheduling conflicts or authorization issues.

  • Maintain up-to-date patient records and documentation in electronic health systems.

  • Monitor authorization requests and escalate any issues to the appropriate departments.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of scheduling metrics and authorization status.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize workflow and improve patient experience.

  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations, insurance requirements, and company policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.

  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a virtual environment while maintaining accountability.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance authorizations, and healthcare workflows is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in medical authorization, scheduling, or healthcare administration.

  • Experience in a virtual or remote healthcare setting is a plus.

  • Prior experience with insurance verification and patient coordination preferred.

Working Hours

  • Full-time remote position

  • Standard business hours with flexibility to adjust based on patient and provider needs

  • Some evening or weekend availability may be required

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to handle complex scheduling and authorization requests.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
