Job Summary

WGU (Western Governors University) is seeking a passionate and student-centered Virtual Student Success Coach to join our Online Campus team. This role is designed for individuals who are deeply committed to helping students achieve their academic goals through personalized guidance, consistent communication, and proactive support. As a Success Coach, you will play a key role in improving student engagement, motivation, and persistence by serving as their trusted academic advisor and mentor. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while making a meaningful impact on students’ educational journeys.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned students, offering academic, motivational, and career support throughout their enrollment.

• Develop individualized coaching plans to ensure students stay on track with their academic progress and degree completion goals.

• Conduct regular check-ins via phone, email, video conferencing, and online chat to monitor progress and address concerns.

• Assist students in identifying and overcoming academic or personal obstacles that may hinder success.

• Provide guidance on time management, study strategies, and academic resources to enhance performance.

• Collaborate closely with faculty, program mentors, and student services to ensure a cohesive student experience.

• Maintain accurate and timely records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes using WGU’s student information systems.

• Identify at-risk students and develop intervention strategies to promote retention and academic achievement.

• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that aligns with WGU’s mission of providing accessible, competency-based education.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field preferred.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.

• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a student-first mindset.

• High level of organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, virtual environment.

• Comfortable using digital communication tools, learning management systems (LMS), and CRM platforms.

• Empathy, patience, and genuine enthusiasm for student development and success.

Experience

• Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in student advising, academic coaching, career counseling, or higher education support roles.

• Experience working in a remote or online education environment is highly desirable.

• Demonstrated success in improving student retention and engagement rates will be an advantage.

Working Hours

• Full-time, remote position with flexible scheduling.

• Must be available to meet students’ needs across multiple time zones, which may include occasional evening or weekend availability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Deep understanding of student success principles, online learning, and academic persistence strategies.

• Strong technological proficiency with virtual communication and productivity tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, etc.).

• Ability to analyze student data to identify patterns and proactively address academic challenges.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

• Capacity to work independently while collaborating effectively within a virtual team.
