Job Description

Job Summary

The Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary – Surgical Ward Support role is responsible for providing high-quality basic nursing care and essential support within the surgical ward. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of registered nurses and medical professionals to ensure safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. This role plays a vital part in maintaining hygiene, comfort, and clinical efficiency in a fast-paced hospital environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene
  • Support the surgical nursing team in pre-operative and post-operative patient care
  • Monitor and record basic vital signs including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure
  • Maintain accurate patient records and report changes in patient conditions to senior nursing staff
  • Ensure cleanliness and infection control standards are strictly followed within the ward
  • Assist in patient positioning, wound care support, and safe transfer of patients
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families
  • Prepare patient rooms, beds, and medical equipment as required
  • Adhere to hospital protocols, safety guidelines, and ethical nursing practices

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary qualification (registered with relevant nursing council)
  • Basic understanding of surgical ward procedures and patient care standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Good observation skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control measures
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and professional attitude
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and reporting

Experience

  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting is advantageous
  • Experience in surgical ward support or post-operative care will be highly preferred
  • Freshly qualified candidates may be considered depending on training and competency

Working Hours

  • Shift-based schedule including day, night, weekend, and public holiday rotations
  • Standard hospital shifts typically range from 8 to 12 hours
  • Flexibility is required to meet patient care and emergency needs

  • Understanding of basic nursing care principles and surgical patient needs
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
