Job Summary


Absa Group is seeking a client‑centred Short‑Term Insurance Homeowners & Contents Consultant to advise, quote, underwrite, service, retain, and grow a portfolio of Personal Lines Homeowners (Buildings) and Household Contents policies. You will operate within FAIS “Fit & Proper” requirements, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, POPIA, and Absa’s risk and compliance frameworks. Your success will be measured through conversion, retention, cross‑sell/upsell, compliance quality scores, and exceptional customer experience.




Key Responsibilities


Sales, Advice & Underwriting



  • Provide compliant, needs‑based advice on Homeowners (buildings) and Household Contents cover, endorsements, limits, and optional benefits.

  • Accurately assess risk, gather underwriting information, and place or amend cover within delegated authority.

  • Prepare competitive quotes, convert leads, and execute targeted cross‑sell/upsell campaigns (e.g., All‑risk, Motor, Portable Possessions).


Servicing & Retention



  • Manage end‑to‑end policy servicing: amendments, renewals, premium reviews, cancellations, reinstatements, and billing queries.

  • Proactively retain clients through value articulation, risk mitigation tips, and re‑broking (where permitted).

  • Maintain high first‑call resolution and NPS/CSAT scores.


Compliance, Governance & Quality



  • Operate strictly under FAIS, FICA, TCF, POPIA, and Absa policy standards.

  • Keep all RE, Class of Business, Product Specific Training and CPD requirements current.

  • Achieve audit/QA targets on all written and verbal advice records (RoA), disclosures, and file notes.


Operations, Reporting & Continuous Improvement



  • Capture all interactions on Absa’s CRM/policy administration systems with complete, accurate data.

  • Work collaboratively with Claims, Collections, and Risk teams to resolve client issues swiftly.

  • Contribute to process optimisation, digital adoption, and product/UX feedback loops.




Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Matric/Grade 12 (essential).

  • Relevant NQF Level 4/5 qualification in Short‑Term Insurance or Financial Planning (advantageous if already FAIS‑credited).

  • RE5 (Representatives) passed (essential) or obtained within the regulatory timeframe if under supervision.

  • Class of Business (Personal Lines) & Product Specific Training completed (or willing to complete before rendering advice).

  • Up‑to‑date CPD hours in line with FAIS requirements.

  • Strong technical understanding of Personal Lines HOC (Homeowners & Contents) products, underwriting principles, excess structures, and policy wording.

  • Proficiency with policy administration & CRM platforms (e.g., TIA/Guidewire/Salesforce or similar) and MS Office 365.

  • Excellent consultative selling, objection handling, and relationship management skills.

  • High attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and documentation discipline.

  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication in English (additional South African languages an advantage).




Experience



  • 2–4 years’ experience in Short‑Term Insurance (Personal Lines) with a focus on Homeowners (Buildings) & Household Contents—across sales, underwriting, or servicing.

  • Demonstrated track record of hitting conversion, retention and quality/compliance KPIs.

  • Experience working within a bank‑tied or insurer/broker environment, with exposure to TCF, POPIA, FICA, and risk & compliance controls.




Working Hours



  • Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 (SAST) with rotational Saturday support (e.g., 08:00–13:00) based on business need.

  • Occasional after‑hours / peak‑period availability for escalations, renewals, or campaigns.

  • Hybrid/office-based model may apply depending on business unit policy.




Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


Knowledge



  • FAIS Fit & Proper framework, TCF outcomes, POPIA, FICA.

  • Personal Lines underwriting, policy wording interpretation, and claims lifecycle awareness.

  • Pricing mechanics: premiums, underwriting loadings, excess structures, risk mitigation.


Skills & Abilities



  • Needs analysis & advice recording (RoA) with impeccable compliance.

  • Negotiation, retention tactics, and premium re‑engineering.

  • Data accuracy, documentation, and CRM hygiene.

  • Ability to work to daily SLAs, QA standards, and sales/retention targets.

  • Resilience, problem‑solving, and a continuous improvement mindset.
