Job Description
Job Summary
Mediclinic is seeking a detail‑oriented Clinical Technician to ensure the availability, safety, and optimal performance of hospital medical equipment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, support clinical teams during equipment use, manage asset documentation, and uphold regulatory and quality standards across our facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on a wide range of biomedical/clinical devices (e.g., patient monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, anaesthesia machines).
- Perform calibration, functional testing, and safety checks in line with OEM recommendations, IEC 60601, and internal SOPs.
- Troubleshoot equipment faults, identify root causes, and implement timely fixes to minimise downtime.
- Maintain accurate CMMS/asset management records (work orders, parts usage, calibration certificates, service history).
- Assist with equipment commissioning, acceptance testing, and decommissioning/disposal.
- Coordinate with OEMs, third‑party service providers, and procurement for spares, warranties, and service contracts.
- Support clinical staff training on safe operation, basic troubleshooting, and care of equipment.
- Contribute to risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits (JCI, ISO, DOH/DOH equivalent).
- Participate in on‑call/after‑hours support for critical equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis of failures, MTBF/MTTR, and cost of maintenance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electronics, or related technical field.
- Solid understanding of medical device standards, electrical safety, and hospital engineering practices.
- Proficiency with test instruments (e.g., safety analyzers, electrical testers, flow analyzers, defib analyzers).
- Working knowledge of CMMS and maintenance documentation best practices.
- Strong fault‑finding, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Clear communication skills to interface with clinicians, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Knowledge of infection prevention & control as it relates to equipment handling.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and OEM technical bulletins.
Experience
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience maintaining hospital/clinical biomedical equipment (fresh graduates with exceptional internship exposure may be considered for junior roles).
- Experience in an accredited, multi-specialty hospital or medical equipment OEM/authorized service centre preferred.
- Exposure to JCI/ISO 13485/ISO 9001 environments is an advantage.
Working Hours
- Full-time role with standard hospital engineering hours.
- Shift, weekend, and on-call rotations may apply to support 24/7 operations and critical incidents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of medical device life-cycle management (planning → purchase → commissioning → maintenance → decommissioning).
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and reporting for medical devices.
- Time management & prioritisation skills to balance multiple service requests.
- Customer-service mindset with a commitment to patient safety and clinician support.
- Documentation accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams under pressure.
