Job Summary


Mediclinic Vacancies is looking for a reliable, compassionate Porter and Driver to ensure the safe, timely and courteous transport of patients, specimens, medication, equipment and supplies within and between hospital facilities. You will be the “front line” of hospital logistics—supporting clinical teams, maintaining strict infection‑prevention standards, and delivering an exceptional patient experience.




Key Responsibilities



  • Patient Transport: Safely transfer patients (bed, wheelchair, stretcher) to and from wards, theatres, diagnostics, and discharge areas, ensuring dignity, comfort and confidentiality.

  • Driving Duties: Operate hospital vehicles to transport patients, staff, specimens, files and equipment between facilities, adhering to road safety and company policies.

  • Logistics & Handling: Collect, deliver and track medical equipment, linen, pharmacy items, lab specimens and medical records with full chain-of-custody compliance.

  • Infection Prevention & Control: Follow strict cleaning, sanitising and PPE protocols for vehicles, trolleys, stretchers and wheelchairs.

  • Communication & Coordination: Liaise with nursing, admissions, radiology, theatre and other support services to prioritise and complete requests.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete trip logs, patient handover forms, incident reports, mileage sheets and maintenance checklists accurately.

  • Emergency Support: Respond rapidly to urgent and emergency transport requests.

  • Safety & Maintenance: Conduct daily vehicle and equipment checks; report defects and schedule maintenance promptly.

  • Customer Service: Provide empathetic, respectful assistance to patients, families and visitors.




Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Secondary school certificate / Grade 12 (or equivalent).

  • Valid driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle class (e.g., Light Motor Vehicle).

  • Clean driving record; defensive driving training is advantageous.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / First Aid Level 1 (advantageous).

  • Knowledge of safe patient handling and lifting techniques.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English (additional local languages are a plus).

  • Physically fit; able to push, pull and lift within safe manual‑handling limits.

  • Familiarity with infection prevention and control practices.

  • Basic computer / mobile app literacy for job dispatching and documentation.




Experience



  • 1–2 years in a hospital/clinical environment as a porter, orderly, driver, or similar logistics role (preferred).

  • Experience transporting vulnerable, immobile or medically complex patients is an advantage.

  • Prior work with healthcare logistics (specimens, pharmacy, sterile services) is beneficial.




Working Hours



  • Shift-based role: days, nights, weekends and public holidays on a rotational roster.

  • Overtime and on-call/standby may be required to meet operational needs.
